The Sister’s Ugly

This dramatic comedy with music follows the life of Clarice and Isabel – the OG Ugly Step Sisters of Cinderella. Clarice has been playing a Step Sister in her local pantomime for centuries and a review by a critic forces her to evaluate he career and her entire existence. She takes us with her as she revisits events in her childhood, the relationship with her sister, father and mother, the tragedy that alters her looks, the ball and the fitting of the famous ‘Glass Slipper. Featuring music from Queen, One Republic and Elton John.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Bio Dianne Simpson (Writer and Actress)
Dianne has a bit of an obsession with Fairy Tales and hearing all sides of the story – and hence why her first one-woman show, ‘Rose Red’ – the Snow White Story from the Evil Queen’s perspective – was the beginning of a long relationship of needing to explore this subject as much as humanly possible.
Some acting career highlights include: ‘The Sound of Music’. ‘My Fair Lady’, “Blithe Spirit’, ‘Into the Woods’, ‘Kinky Boots’. She has been in various TV series eg: Egoli, The Wild, Rhythm City, Binnelanders and has just recently appeared in Generations – The Legacy as Miss Taylor.
Her writing credits include writing for ‘Legacy’ on M-net (Season 2) and Silly Seasons directed by Daniel Buckland, in which she played two of the main motion capture animated characters. She was the voice of Lillian in ‘Jock, the Hero Dog’ and was an on-set animal voice artist for the Warner Bros movie, ‘Racing Stripes’.
She appeared as First Lady Julia Grant in the docu-drama ‘GRANT’ produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. She returned to Makhanda last year on the curated programme in the show, ‘Spanish Steps’ which can also be seen on the Fringe this year.

Onida Cowan – Director
Onida graduated from UP with a degree in Drama is 1994. Her acting career began as part of the PACOFS theatre company in Bloemfontein and over the years she appeared in over 40 theatre productions. She was awarded a VITA award for Best Actress twice and received the Cobus Rossouw award for Best Newcomer. Her work also includes writing, directing, voice over work and she appears in almost all the local soapies whilst living in Johannesburg. In 2011 Onida went on holiday to Cape Town and stayed. 12 years later she is a mom and works as an actor’s agent.
