Freshlyground, formed in 2002, has become as central to South African identity as Mrs Ball’s chutney! One of the most acclaimed and successful groups to emerge from South Africa in the past two decades, the band blends infectious kwela with musical traditions from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, adding elements of pop, jazz, blues and indie rock. They have toured the world and recorded seven albums, including a collaborative song with pop superstar Shakira that was broadcast to over a billion people during the closing ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

With traditional musical elements combined with cutting edge contemporary grooves they remind us not to lose our past, while finding our place in  our modern global surroundings.

Voice: Zolani Mahola

Wow!!!! Zolani took us through the different stages of life from being in love and revealing yourself to your loved one, to encouraging you to be the best you and finally through you being the best you creating a better South Africa. Throughout the show zolani introduced who she is by unmasking herself by taking off her shoes, barrett, then her doek, earrings and chain. Showing us how proud she is to be herself and encouraging the audience to be proud of who you are too.
