We celebrate local vocal talent, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture.

Nombasa Maqoko is an Afro-acoustic, indie-folk singer/songwriter who was born and raised in Makhanda. She embarked on the journey of being an independent artist in 2015 and has sung alongside artists such as Msaki, SoulBi Jazz, Umle and Vusi Mahlasela.

Titi Luzipho grew up in Port Elizabeth and started singing from a young age. She completed a BMus in Jazz Performance at UCT, as well as Performing Arts at UWC and has since worked with the likes of George Benson, Judith Sephuma, Gloria Bosman, Simphiwe Dana, Feya Faku and Zwai Bala. Her two recent projects – #SongsMyMotherTaughtMe and Being Woman – have been well received.

These two young singers are joined on stage by Kwantu Choir, which includes singers from across the community of Makhanda.

The show could gave been spectacular. The cast were let down by an unco-ordinated technical team and their voices were drowned by the over loud music. In addition there was no need whatsoever for the speech by the MEC who basically said nothing constructive
