I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE!

MAGNET THEATRE’S JENNIE REZNEK PERFORMS IN ‘I TURNED AWAY AND SHE WAS GONE’!

Magnet Theatre’s Jennie Reznek performs powerfully in her first solo show in two decades in ‘I Turned Away And She Was Gone’. Written and performed by theatre legend Jennie Reznek, and directed by Mark Fleishman, it is a captivating, moving new production from one of South Africa’s most celebrated physical theatre companies. The show is a captivating reworking of the Demeter and Persephone story. It reviews the relationships between the three incarnations of women: a mother, a daughter and grandmother, and the passage of our past, present and future selves. The bonds that connect mothers and children, the cycle of daughters transforming into mothers and into ageing parents and the inevitable loss of life are poetically explored on this journey of discovery. ‘I Turned Away And She Was Gone’ is a human story looking at connections between us and the relationship we have with ourselves, while examining the rites of passage that women move through, from young girl, to adolescent, to woman and mother. “As a woman evolves and her body changes, her identity shifts and the relationship she has with her younger self also changes,” says Reznek. “I Turned Away And She Was Gone is a powerful story for both males and females, capturing the delicate and beautiful cycle of life.”
