A meditative candlelit service with prayers, scripture and songs from the Taizé community in France, led by an instrumental group. Retiring collection.

Take time out from the rush to enjoy a 45 minute programme consisting of scripture readings, classical music, prayer, silence and a liturgical act.

"Spot the Tune" - Cathedral organist, Wilf Stout, challenges and entertains: 40 tunes in 40 minutes - spot the tunes! Prize for the most correct answers! Retiring collection.

CULTURAL EVENING with Olenka and Marco. (Christ Church Hall, Speke St)

Enjoy a family friendly musical evening in a relaxed environment. The programme includes items from: "Dreamweaver", a classical guitar duo; Traditional African songs and ngano stories from Zimbabwe with mbira and harp by Andrew Tracey & Laina Gumboreshumba; Songs and lullabies with guitar from Brazil and Latin America; "Boys in Motion" Gospel a cappella; Music in the shantu tradition of the Hausa-Fulani by Blessing and Daniel Hutchinson; and more!
Entrance fee: R40, payable at the door. All proceeds to the feeding project for Nompumelelo pre-school in Joza.

EXHIBITIONS

10:00-17:00 Daily (Venue: Christ Church Hall, Speke Street)
Light and Colour: Interior decorative paintings and portraits by Pierre Botha who uses colour, line, form and space to express feelings of the Karoo. Olenka Brutsch displays her unusual ceramic sculptures in the form of lamp bases, using light as symbolic of God bringing us His light. Entrance free.

10:00-16:00 daily (excluding service and performance times)

"A dialect for hope": Sculpture and photographic images by Duncan Stewart, centred around a life-size bronze of a small boy asleep yet holding onto a soccer ball. The sculpture communicates the essence of what personal hope looks like, yet doing so through an unconventional alliance between art and sport in our country. Entrance free.

A Keiskamma altarpiece, made by the Keiskamma Art Project in Hamburg.

RESTORATION OF STAINED GLASS


11:00-11:45 28, 29 & 30 June (venue: The Chapter House room in the Cathedral).
David Manning will present a talk on the restoration of the Cathedral stained glass windows, and demonstrate various stained glass techniques, eg glass cutting. Retiring collection towards the glass restoration project

Home from Home: Singer-songwriter Chris Mann in collaboration with international Afro-fusion band Nia and backing vocalists premiere songs in the Cathedral, below large-scale images by artist Julia Skeen. Songs include: Night-flying, Lament for Mandela, Paradise Road, It's Country Cricket Time. Settings by Andrew Tracey.
